We ate tonight at the River Spice at the Forge Hammer. Wow. We’ve eaten a fair few Indian meals in our time but this was so beautifully sensual and deep in flavour with freshness and real spice preserved throughout. Absolutely fabulous. 9.95 out of 10. We will be back!!!
WOW! – What a find. We had hired a holiday cottage in the village so had looked at reviews of the River Spice and decided to give it a try as we are dedicated foodies. It was amazing food, lovely clean restaurant, the staff were more than pleasant and the locals in the public bar made us feel as though we really belonged. If you live within a 50 mile radius you should make an effort to try it, it will be well worth the journey. It’s such a shame we live as far away as Paignton in Devon or it would be a regular reservation for us.
This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants anywhere. I dine here whenever I get the chance. It is one of the few places I actually reccomend to people.
We visited last night for the first time – but definitely not the last. You think you know what to expect from Indian food in the UK because other restaurants all offer the same things but the food here was truly amazing. Having B&B and Self-catering accommodation in the area it will really benefit our business to be able to recommend such a high quality restaurant and friendly pub to our guests.
Being half Asian I have been brought up on curries and have eaten Indian food from all over the country. This superb Indian restaurant and bar are in my opinion one the best in the UK. Try it you will not be disappointed.
Your chef may not be quite as good as Atul Kochhar, but I’m guessing he’s not far off. This menu is such a refreshing change from the usual balti, dhansak, bhoona, etc, etc. The food was beautifully spiced, the nan were light and I only wish this restaurant was in Plymouth. This is the best Indian food I have eaten outside of India. You Foresters are so lucky to have this jewel of a restaurant tucked away at the bottom of Lydbrook. Go and enjoy, you’ll see what I mean

Wish we could afford to eat out every week.
Anyone who has not been to you for a meal does not know what they are missing

Best Indian food I have ever had. What fantastic chefs and the service isn’t too bad either.
We moved to the area recently and have just had our first River Spice take away ~ we’ll be back for more.
